Habitat for Humanity

In 2009 we completed our 16th Habitat for Humanity House. Our build this year was done from August 21st – October 31st. The dedication of the house was on November 7th. J Quest (our children’s Sunday school) did special projects which they built for the family and presented at the dedication.

Under the Bridge

UTB is an outreach that clothes, feeds and shares the Gospel with the homeless of our city. We worship with our guests downtown under the Commerce St. bridge and serve them a noon meal on the second Sunday of the month. We need volunteers to prepare and serve the meal; set up chairs, help lead worship, talk to people and share the love of Jesus.Contact Ron Brown at  210 884 0902  or ron.brown@havenforhope.org.

CAM – Christian Assistance Ministry

CAM is a cooperative ministry founded in 1977 by nine downtown churches to provide immediate, temporary assistance to low-income and homeless families in crisis situations. CAM has a satellite here at the back of the U. With the help of 15 volunteers a week and a part-time social worker, the CAM Satellite provides the same services as the inner city location: food, clothing, and some financial aid.  If you are interested in volunteering for CAM, please contact the Outreach office.

Food Drives

Twice each year the University family donates tons of food to benefit CAM, Easter Seals, and other organizations fighting hunger. Church members drop off sacks of groceries at designated locations where Boy Scouts transfer them for storage. On the Monday following each drive, volunteers take the a stored food to the various hunger organizations. Drives take place on Mother’s Day and the Sunday before Thanksgiving.

Christian Senior Services prepares the meals and drops them off to volunteer sites all over town. University serves as a Volunteer Site with three routes: one route delivers close to Boerne, one route delivers along De Zavala Rd. and Vance Jackson, and the other route delivers along Vance Jackson and Wurzbach Road. Volunteers pick up the meals between 11:00 and 1:00 p.m. Monday through Friday; volunteers serve on one day weekly or biweekly.  Contact Roberta Cox at  210 313 1380  or rcox@satx.rr.com for more information.
